Industry trends of mud pumps: future trends and challenges
Category: news Release time:2022-04-02
(一)Installation
- Petroleum machinery shall be kept level, with a horizontal deviation not exceeding 3 mm, so as to ensure the normal oil supply of the power end lubricating oil circuit during operation and the normal work of the driving V-belt. For chain transmission, the requirements are more stringent: the large and small chain wheels of the pump shall be mounted on the same base, and if on different bases, they shall be rigidly connected.
- The position of the pump shall be as low as possible, and the position of the mud tank shall be as high as possible to facilitate suction.
- It is better to use a hose for the suction pipe of the pump, with a minimum diameter of 250 mm. The length shall be between 2.1 and 3.8 meters, straight without 90-degree sharp bends, so as to reduce friction resistance and inertia loss in the suction pipe.
- The connection between the suction pipe and the mud tank shall not be directly below the position where mud returns to the tank, so as to avoid sucking in sediment at the bottom of the tank.
- Firmly support all suction and discharge pipelines so that they do not bear additional external loads and reduce vibration. Under no circumstances shall pipelines be allowed to hang on the pump due to insufficient support.
- The suction system shall not allow any air leakage, which is a major issue related to the normal operation of the mud pump.
(二)Start-up
- When putting a new pump into use or an old pump that has been out of service for a long time, first, the power end oil sump, lubricating oil groove, oil circuit, and the space around the crosshead must be cleaned. Add CKC320 or CKC220 medium-load extreme pressure industrial gear oil. Before starting, open all inspection covers and add oil to the pinion, bearings, and crosshead oil grooves to ensure that all friction surfaces of the pump are lubricated before start-up.
- Check whether the spray pump, water tank, and spray pipeline are clean and in normal condition. When it is necessary to use tap water for cooling, the water pressure shall be greater than 0.5 Kg, and the cooling water volume per mud pump per hour shall not be less than 6 cubic meters. The higher the ambient temperature and the pump pressure, the larger the cooling water volume shall be. Frequently touch the outer wall of the cylinder liner with hands to check the heat dissipation of the cylinder liner; generally, it is appropriate to feel cool. If circulating water is used, it shall be precipitated, filtered, and naturally cooled, and the inlet water temperature shall generally not exceed 20℃.
- Tighten the main bearing gland bolts of the power end crankshaft and all fasteners on the valve box; there shall be no leakage at the sealing parts of the bellows, pump plunger, and positioning plate to prevent cooling water from entering the power end.
- Check all valves on the mud pipeline to see if they are in the correct operating state before start-up.
- Check whether the inflation pressure of the discharge pre-charged air package meets the requirements.
- Check whether the pump pressure gauge and safety valve (especially the safety pin) are normal.
- Open the valve cover, fill the suction valve box with clean water or mud, and discharge air.
- When starting, increase the pump speed slowly to avoid cavitation in the cylinder.
- When the mud density is high, the gas content is large, or the viscosity is high, the pump shall operate at medium or low speed as much as possible to avoid poor suction.
- Immediately conduct a patrol inspection of the drilling pump after start-up. If abnormal local temperature rise, abnormal noise, or air leakage in the suction pipe is found, stop the pump quickly, find out the cause, and rectify it.
(三)Operation
- The key to enabling the triplex single-acting drilling pump to perform well during operation is: under the premise of meeting the pump pressure requirements, use the largest possible piston; under the premise of meeting the displacement requirements, use the lowest possible pump speed (strokes per minute). That is, under the premise of meeting the drilling process requirements and within the allowable range of the drilling pump's technical performance, try to use a large piston and low pump speed.
- Carefully observe whether the cylinder liner reciprocates and whether the piston rod clamp makes noise during reciprocating movement. If abnormal conditions are found, handle them promptly. Check and tighten all fasteners in a timely manner.
- Check whether there is leakage at all high-pressure sealing parts and whether the pump valve has leakage or abnormal impact sound. If abnormal conditions are found, handle them promptly.
- Pay close attention to changes in pump pressure. If the pump pressure fluctuates sharply, rises, or drops suddenly, find out the cause quickly and handle it properly.
- Pay attention to the lubrication, temperature rise, and cooling of the operating parts (especially the bearing parts). Check whether the lubricating oil and cooling water have deteriorated. If abnormal conditions are found, find out the cause and take measures.
- Pay attention to whether the sound of each operating part is normal.
- It is strictly prohibited to use pistons of two different diameters in one triplex pump or use a triplex pump as a duplex pump.
- Overload operation is strictly prohibited. The optimal operating state is when operating below 80% of the rated power and below 75% of the rated maximum pump pressure.
- Avoid long-term operation below 50% of the rated power and below 100 atmospheres of pump pressure, as the mechanical efficiency of the drilling pump will decrease sharply at this time, resulting in an uneconomical operating state.
When this series of drilling pumps operate according to the recommended operating parameters above, continuous operation is allowed, and their reliability and economy can be fully guaranteed. - The basic points for the normal operation of petroleum machinery drilling pumps are: three "mediums", three "noes", and two "normals".
Three "mediums": medium power, medium pump pressure, and medium-speed operation;
Three "noes": no loosening of fasteners, no leakage of seals, and no fluctuation of pump pressure;
Two "normals": normal temperature and normal sound.
